James ‘Ace’ Potter

BARAGA — James E. “Ace” Potter, age 69 of Baraga, MI passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026. He was born in Highland Park, MI on October 30, 1956 the son of the late Leonard E. and Margaret M. (Morin) Potter. Ace graduated from Baraga High School in 1974 and then attended Northern Michigan University He was a self-employed mechanic. Ace was a member of Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and a former member of the Baraga Fire Department.

Ace had many friends, far too many to ever mention, but you know who you are.

He had Lifelong friends, Nascar friends, Football friends, Pool League friends, 4 wheeling friends, Hot Rod friends, New friends, and just plain friends.

He fixed a lot of cars,4 wheelers, snowmobiles and bikes over the years for friends and family and strangers that needed help. When the band “The Association’s” vehicle broke down on the way to a show in Houghton, Ace got them back on the road, they gave him an autographed album.

Ace liked to draw cars, at 15 he won Honorable mention in the 1971 Autorama Draw Your Dream Car contest among entrants from all over the country.

Ace never liked funerals, so we are not having one for him.

Ace DID like parties, so when the weather turns nice, we are going to have one for him.

A celebration of Ace’s life will be held at a later date and will be announced at that time

Ace is survived by his loving siblings; Robbie (Michael) Cornelius of Rhinelander, WI, Kenneth “Ken” Potter of L’Anse, Blaine Ross (Karen Runvik) of Baraga, Gene Ross of Baraga, and Carol Carlson of Baraga, Numerous Nieces and Nephews

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and some close childhood friends.
