Virginia D. ‘Ginny’ Schubert
EAGLE HARBOR — Virginia D. “Ginny” Schubert (née Thomas), age 82, of Eagle Harbor and a longtime resident of De Pere, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at her home on December 25, 2025.
Ginny was born on October 25, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, to Howard and Marion (Morgan) Thomas. She spent her high school years in Skokie, Illinois, and later attended Northern Illinois University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. On November 9, 1968, she married Douglas Schubert, and together they made their home on a hobby farm in De Pere, Wisconsin, where they lived for more than 25 years.
A devoted homemaker, Ginny raised two children while also enjoying substitute teaching and a lifelong commitment to volunteerism.
She was actively involved in numerous organizations in both the Green Bay area and the Keweenaw Peninsula. Ginny found great joy in supporting activities related to theater, scouting, sports, parades, history, and museums. After “retiring” to Eagle Harbor, she continued her passion for education and service by volunteering at the one-room schoolhouse in Copper Harbor and at Calumet Elementary School, where she was affectionately known as “Grandma Ginny.”
When she was not at home, her friends and family often found her at the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse, where her dedication to the lighthouse and the Keweenaw Historical Society was truly unmatched.
She is survived by her brothers, Raymond, Robert (Jeri), and Richard; her daughter, Dianne (Jason) Goulette; her son, Dan Schubert; and her grandchildren, Hannah and Ava Schubert, and Paxtyn and Quinn Goulette.
A memorial service celebrating Ginny’s life will be held this summer in Eagle Harbor. Details will be announced at a later date.
