Barbara M. Kausie
HANCOCK — Barbara M. Kausie, 85, a lifelong resident of Calumet passed away peacefully on Friday January 30,2026 at Canal View-Houghton County, where she resided since December of 2024.
She was born on September 2, 1940 in Calumet to Earl and Jennie (Sorenson) Blau. On August 20, 1960 Barbara was united in marriage to the love of her life, George Kausie in Calumet.
Barbara was a homemaker, raised 2 children and loved being a Grandma to Danny. Along the way she unofficially adopted Tony as another grandchild. “Oooh those two…” I can hear her swearing now. She loved their sass and gave it right back to them. Barbara enjoyed reading, crocheting, listening to music and baking cookies. She also loved visiting with people and going on outings with her friends on the bus. When her husband George became ill, she dedicated her life to care for him and remained by his side til the end.
She was small but mighty! People referred to her as “the gem”, “a spitfire” and “spicy” She was sassy, witty, bold, feisty, mean, giving, sweet, kind, gentle, harsh, loving, beautiful, and the strongest little woman we have ever known. Barbara was so many things all wrapped up in a 4 foot package. The love she had for her family was beyond measure.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Jennie, her siblings, Gary, Earl Jr, and Geraldine Geshel, her husband- George, and her Great Granddaughter-Riley.
Barbara is survived by: Her Daughter: Roxanne (Jonathan) Billing of Mohawk. Her Son: Michael Kausie of Ohio. Her grandson: Daniel Harter. Family friend: Dave Geisler, who has been there for Barbara and George for many years. He was truly a blessing in their lives. Special Niece: Darlene Gruver who she would call daily for many years. Special friends: Carol, Jim, Megan and Greg. They were more than friends, they were family.
Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Canal View for the love and care that they gave Barbara.
Per Barbara’s request, cremation has taken place and burial will take place in Lake View Cemetery.
