David Oja

David Oja, 90, was called home to his Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 22, 2026. David lived a life rooted in faith, family, and a deep love for the outdoors. As an avid fisherman, he found great joy in God’s creation, whether in the quiet stillness of the woods or casting a line into the water. In his younger years, he was a passionate sports enthusiast, playing both hockey and baseball and carrying his competitive spirit and love of the game throughout his life.

Above all, David cherished time with his Lord Jesus Christ, and looked forward to meeting him face-to-face. He also cherished family time and time with his Apostolic Lutheran Church family.

Some of his happiest days were spent together with his wife, children and grandchildren at Lac La Belle in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula — a place close to his heart. David embraced the rugged beauty, strong community values, and enduring spirit of the U.P., qualities that were reflected in his own character.

David was preceded in death by the love of his life, Myrna (Harri) Oja, in 2017, after 60 wonderful years of marriage. Their lifelong partnership was a testament to love, commitment, and faith.

He is lovingly survived by his children: Lynn Cupp (David), Marcia Ferguson (Bruce), Steven Oja (Caroline), Lorelei Nicosia (Paul), Alan Oja (Tammy), and Lisa Rasmussen (Javier). He also leaves behind a remarkable legacy of 25 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

David is further survived by his brother-in-law, Neil Harri (Susan); sisters-in-law, Darlene Buck (Tom) and Priscilla Boginski (Kurt); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

David’s steady faith, love of family, and appreciation for the simple blessings of life will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
