Donald Antilla

Donald was born on January 18, 1958 in Laurium to his parents, the late Elroy and Patricia (Supanich) Antilla. He graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1976. After graduation, Donald entered the police training academy at Northern Michigan University, graduating in 1977. In 1977 he was hired as a Keweenaw County Deputy, having the opportunity to work along side his father, Elroy, who was the Keweenaw County Sheriff at the time. In 1979, Donald decided to further his law enforcement career and was hired as a police officer for Hancock, working there from 1979 to 1996. He also was a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) working for Mercy Ambulance Service from 1992 to 1994. In 1996, due to health issues with Multiple Sclerosis, Donald retired from the Hancock Police Department. He then moved back to the family home in Mohawk, where he resided until 2012. From then on, he resided in local nursing home facilities until his passing.

Donald was an avid sports fan of the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Red Wings, and the Detroit Tigers, and always followed his two nephews’ athletic careers, who he was very proud of. He always looked forward to his Sunday talks with his brother, Bill, over his Alexa and Bill’s yearly visits in the fall.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents Elroy and Patricia Antilla, and brother-in-law George Rangus. He is survived by his sister Donna Rangus of Laurium, brother Bill (Marilyn) Antilla of Honolulu, Hawaii, and his two nephews Bob Rangus and Brian Rangus.

Per Donald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place with family at a later date. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Portage Pointe for the love and care that they gave Donald.
