Jeanine Belhumeur
HANCOCK — Jeanine was born in Hancock, Michigan, the oldest of ten children of the late William and Elizabeth Kolehmainen. She graduated from the Hancock High School in 1957 and attended Suomi College in Hancock in 1958 and obtained a secretarial degree. She was employed by the Liberty Loan Corporation in Hancock upon graduation. On June 11th, 1960, she married Robert Belhumeur at the St. Joseph-St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hancock. She was then employed by WHDF Radio Station, Houghton MI, for two years as a continuity writer prior to moving to Kenosha, WI, with her husband in 1962. Jeanine secured employment at Kenosha Cartage for 18 years as a secretary and then 16 years with Kenosha County — first with the Board of Review and the last 10 years in Circuit Court — retiring in 2003.
Jeanine was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church; the former St. George Christian Mother’s Society; the former Chuck Wagon Campers; Women of the Moose; the Ruby Rascals Red Hatters: and the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry through St. Elizabeth.
Jeanine and her late husband enjoyed camping locally for over forty years and traveling to Texas and out west in their RV; taking cruises and bus trips and dancing at least one night every week.
Jeanine was united in marriage to her late husband Robert, who passed away in January 2022. They would have been married 62 years in June.
Jeanine enjoyed baking, knitting, and attending local festivals and music programs.
Survivors include three children: Scott (Susan) Belhumeur in Milwaukee, Christopher Belhumeur in Madison, and Cheryl Brauer in Twin Lakes; two granddaughters: Krista Reitz and Jessica Brauer and two great-granddaughters: Amelia McCartney and Scarlett Gascoigne. She is also survived by four sisters: Kathleen Huffman in Highland Ranch, CO; Marlene (Lynn) Reed in Waterford , MI; Paulene (Leigh) Vavra in Fenton, MI; three brothers; Richard (Laura) Kolehmainen in White Lake, MI; Ronald Kolehmainen in Milan, IL; and Roger Kolehmainen in Ironwood, MI, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jeanine was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2022, a sister Christine at age 12 and one brother Richard at birth.
In accordance with Jeanine’s wishes, she was cremated. A private service will be held at the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock, MI at a later date.
