Cory Osieczonek

COPPER HARBOR — Cory Gene Osieczonek, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2026 in Copper Harbor, MI. He was born October 21, 1971, to Darlene and Wayne Osieczonek. He grew up in Phillips, WI, on a small 25 acre hobby farm with many animal friends. His affection for nature was evident in his ability to befriend numerous animal species, such as a skunk who moved in under the front porch and a crow who came when called and followed Cory everywhere. He loved to care for animals in distress. Cory and his siblings went fishing, hunting, and kite flying — doing all the things a kid will do outside, often without his parents’ approval. Not surprisingly, he was feeding pet crows in Copper Harbor in his later years, and they often brought him gifts.

After spending his early years in Phillips, he attended culinary school and became a chef. His restaurant and cooking skills and adventurous spirit led him to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where he spent the rest of his life, cultivating lifelong friendships and a family community.

In his years working in the area, he worked on Isle Royale National Park, the Pines, the Harbor Haus, and the last 17 years at The Mariner North in Copper Harbor. While working in Copper Harbor, he also spent several winters grooming the Cross-County Ski Trails. All of his experiences allowed him to hold court with friends, staff and visitors in the tourist town of Copper Harbor.

Cory is survived by his siblings, Jim Daniels and Pam (Daniels)Pisca, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and sister Jackie (Daniels) Middendorp.

Cory was a friend to many with a kind heart, who lived life on his own terms and was a proud Yooper. A Celebration of his Life will be held in the spring and an announcement will be made.
