James Balagna
LAURIUM — James Michael Balagna passed away on April 28, 2026 at the age of 79. James “Jim” was born April 29, 1946 in Lauriam, MI to James and Lempi (née Tanskanen) Balagna. He graduated from Calumet High School, class of 1964. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University and graduate with high honors. He was publicity director of the semi-pro Marquette Iron Rangers Hockey Club during his junior and senior years at NMU.
Jim held various accounting positions during his 34-year career at Northwestern Mutual Financial Group. He married the love of his life, Eileen Cullinane, on July 18, 1981. Jim is survived by his wife Eileen, his brother Larry (Eleanor) Balagna of Negaunee, MI, two special goddaughters Ashley Cullinane (Brainerd, MN) and Erin Monfre (Milwaukee, WI), and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Lempi Balagna and his sister Louise Goin. Being a “Yooper” was Jim’s badge of courage! Go Blue! (Eh!) Private services will be held.
