Joseph Chopp

PRUDENVILLE — Joseph “Joe” Anthony Chopp, age 90, of Prudenville, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born on January 29, 1936, in Copper City, Michigan, to Joseph and Ann (Vairo) Chopp. He graduated from Calumet High School class of 1956. He served in the US Marine Corps and later in the Michigan National Guard, where he retired as a Sgt First Class. Joe worked in the Copper mines as a supervisor until the mines closed. He then became a prison guard for the State of Michigan. He was married on May 17, 1980, in Almont, Michigan, to Jonah Lee Drew. The couple moved to the Prudenville area in 2002. Joe was an active member of the Houghton Lake Church of God. He was instrumental in the building program with the church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Tigers and Lions fan.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Jonah Chopp, sons, Brian (Nicole) Chopp, Joseph F. (Tammy) Chopp, Steven Chopp, and Patrick Chopp, daughters, Christine Hrebec, and Kathleen (Jerry) LaBelle, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandson, sisters, MaryAnn (Gerald) Flourre, and Donna Leverette, brother, Dominic (Mary) Chopp. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Francis Chopp.

Funeral Services for Joseph Anthony Chopp will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from the Houghton Lake Church of God with Pastor Jacob Nicoletti officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Joseph are asked to be directed to Houghton Lake Church of God Raise the Roof Fund. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is serving the family.
