Maureen Gray

CHASSELL — Maureen Janice (Huot) Gray, resident of Chassell, MI, was born on January 11, 1947, in Laurium, Michigan, and passed away peacefully at Portage Hospital on November 25, 2025, in Hancock, Michigan with family by her side. She was 78 years old.

Maureen was the beloved daughter of the late Robert and Ina Huot. In her early years, she grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and later moved with her family to Livonia, MI. Maureen carried a deep connection to her Upper Peninsula roots throughout her life and moved back in her later years. She is survived by her sisters Carol (Huot) Abbott and Barbara (Huot) Klipa, as well as her brother Tom (Laura) Huot. She was predeceased by her siblings: Debbie (Huot) Progar, Robert Huot, Joseph Huot, and also her daughter Heather (Gray) Berman. Also preceding in death were her ex-husband Richard Earl Gray and her long-term partner Lester “Raymond” William Foss.

Maureen is survived by her children: Lisa (Jim) Hyde, Richard “Brian” Gray, and Jason (Stacy) Gray. Grandchildren–Krystal, Ted, Ashley, Nicholas, Aiden, Joleen, Sedrick, Declan, Aveleen, and Samuel, and many nieces and nephews.

In her later years, Maureen experienced a profound spiritual renewal. After many years away from the church, she returned to the Catholic faith with a renewed heart. During her final days in the hospital and after 40+ years of being away from the Catholic Church, she received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and the Sacrament of the Sick (Last Rites), a testament to her faith and the grace she embraced.

Maureen’s life was marked by many personal struggles and challenges, but she never gave up on life. May Maureen’s journey inspire others to find strength in faith and love in family bonds.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on June 6, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church (305 Portage St., Houghton) with Rev. Fr. Corey Litzner to officiate. Visitation and confession beginning at 10 am at St. Ignatius, Luncheon to follow after Mass until 1 pm. Cremation has already taken place- burial will be at Lake View Cemetery located at 24090 Veterans Memorial HWY (M203) in Calumet, MI. 49913 thereafter.
