Christine Yoder

MOUNT CARMEL, KY –Christine Diane (Dick) Yoder, of Mount Carmel, KY, known for her tremendous smile and warm personality, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, July 8, 2026, due to complications from pancreatic cancer.

Christine was born in Elkhart, IN to Edwin Clifford and Lucille DeVere (Hall) Dick of Union, MI, on January 16, 1954, and grew up in Union. Her mischievous and curious nature endeared her to (and sometimes annoyed) her sisters, with whom she remained close to into adulthood.

Chris graduated from Mount Carmel High School in Jackson, KY, in 1972. She met Karl Eldon Yoder at Prairie Camp in Elkhart, IN; they attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN, together and married on June 15, 1974.

Chris left her studies to support her husband and raised five children. In addition to faithfully serving with Karl in churches in Indiana (Christian Community Center Missionary Church), Kentucky (Tallega Community Church and Five Mile Community Church – KMHA), Ohio (Potsdam Missionary Church) Michigan (Mud Lake / Living Waters Missionary Church), and Bethany Community Church, Bethany, KY, she also worked throughout her life as a preschool teacher, high school lunch monitor, library clerk, administrative assistant, assistant librarian, and study hall monitor. She even completed an Associate of Arts degree at Montcalm Community College and earned a Certificate of Completion in Biblical Studies from Kentucky Mountain Bible College later in life.

Chris’s initiative, optimism, tireless energy, creativity, and resourcefulness were astounding.

Christine is survived by her sisters Dr. Norma Loomis of Bradenton, FL, and Sherryl Wrightsman (John) of Anderson, IN; her husband Karl; their children: David Yoder (Angela Yoder) of Campton, KY; Daniel Yoder (Chris Wilson) of Allouez Township, MI; Angela Elliott (John Elliott) of Cedar Springs, MI; Rebekah Most (Todd Chase) of Saint Louis, MI; and Susanna Yoder (Zoe Post) of Grand Rapids, MI. Surviving grandchildren include Hannah, Abigail, Josiah, and Lily Yoder of Campton, KY; John, Isaiah, Caleb, Samuel, Noah, Levi, Jasper Elliott of Cedar Springs, MI; and Keagan, Cody, and Joy Most of St. Louis, MI. She is also survived by a multitude of beloved nephews and nieces.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and DeVere Dick of Union, MI, her sister Leona Laughman of Constantine, MI, and two grandsons, Jeremiah and Amos Elliott.

Visitation will be held at the Mount Carmel School Chapel, 75 Mill Creek Lawson Rd, Jackson, KY at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 18, 2026 and the Celebration of Life will be in the Mt. Carmel School Chapel at 11:00 A.M. The service will include an eternal dedication in lieu of a graveside service with Rev. David Spencer and Rev. Charles Glover officiating.
