FORT WAYNE, IN -- Shirley J. Koskiniemi, 77, a resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on July 14, 2026. She was born March 10, 1949 to the late Edwin and Elsie (Halkola) Frusti in Laurium, Michigan. Shirley graduated from Lake Linden High School with the class of 1967. In 1969, she received a Liberal Arts degree at Suomi College in Hancock, Michigan. In 1971, she received her elementary teaching degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. She taught in Michigan, Tennessee, and Indiana retiring in 2019. On February 14, 1975, she was united in marriage to Robert P. Koskiniemi at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Calumet, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Carl Frusti, and a sister Eleanor (Jack) Lauder and brothers-in-law, Ron (Elaine) Teddy & Bill (Eunice) Dix.
She is survived by her husband Robert, two sons and their families: Barry (Kim) Koskiniemi of Sterling Heights, Michigan & their sons:
Benjamin and William. Craig (Monica) Koskiniemi of Burlington, Vermont, & their daughters: Nora, Tess, Nell and Emmi.
Brothers: James (Doreen) Frusti of Rochester, Minnesota Norman (Marge) Frusti of Auburn, Washington, Glenn (Linda) Frusti of Bootjack, Michigan, Patrick (Lynda) Frusti of Traverse City, Michigan. Sisters: Elaine Teddy of Hancock, Michigan, Eunice Dix of Dollar Bay, Michigan. Brother-in-law, Jack Lauder of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, July 20, 2026 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet, Michigan.
Interment will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
