HOUGHTON: Leona Erma Schjoth Bohto, 78, former resident of Houghton, passed away on July 19, 2026, at PortagePointe in Hancock, with her family by her side. Leona was born on February 20, 1948, a daughter of Ralph Bohto and Hannah (Jaukkuri) Bohto Redlich. She attended the Doelle School in Tapiola and graduated from Baraga High School. She worked as a barber and seamstress.
Leona was an active member of the Jehovah's Witness Congregation and died faithful.
She was an avid gardener and homemaker. She enjoyed canning and crafts, along with knitting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by: parents; daughter- Hope Amy Bohto; and siblings-Dale Bohto, Leslie Bohto, Sigrid Jauquet, Carol Bohto, Leon Bohto, and Spencer Bohto.
She is survived by: 4 children-Holly Ann Bohto, John Junior (Beth) Schjoth, Heidi Amanda Schjoth, and Heather Andrea Ely; grandchildren-Kyle, Kylie, Brandon, Rebecca, Damion, and Brayden; great grandchildren-Camden and one on the way; siblings-Clayton Bohto, Donald Bohto, Anita Bohto, Johanna (Jerry) Paakola, Karen (Dean) Manninen, August Bohto, Edward Bohto, and Carl Redlich Jr; along with other relatives and friends.
The memorial service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hancock and a luncheon to follow at 2:30 at the Tapiola Pavilion.
