COPPER HARBOR -- Thomas Dale Jones "TJ" , 78, of Copper Harbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, after a battle with cancer, at Nu Roc Health & Rehabilitation Center in Laona, Wisconsin.
Tom was born on October 3, 1947, to the late Clifford Jones and Stella (Swenski) Jones. He attended schools in Stambaugh, Michigan, and proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division. Following his military service, Tom spent many years working in the woods as a logger.
Tom had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in hiking, searching for rocks, minerals, and copper, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and riding his cherished Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He especially treasured the natural beauty and close-knit community of Copper Harbor, which he proudly called home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward Jones; and his nephew, Rob James.
Tom is survived by his daughters, Kay (Allen) Highline of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Billi Jo (Jean Paul "JP") Starr LuVanVi of Trumansburg, New York; his son, Thomas Cody Jones of Iron River, Michigan; his brother, Michael Jones of Iron River, Michigan; and his sisters, Patricia Misoni and Susan (Jerry) Dahl, both of Iron River, Michigan, and Mary (Bill) Mork of Marshfield, Wisconsin.
Tom is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelsey Highline, Carter Highline, and Aurora LuVanVi; his grandsons, Jack and Luke LuVanVi; his great-granddaughter, Tatum Highline; Trisha (Zack) Stuck, Cody's sister, who remained a special part of Tom's extended family; as well as many nieces, nephews, dear friends, special friends, and the entire Copper Harbor community.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Copper Harbor during the summer of 2027. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Copper Harbor community, the compassionate nursing staff at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium, Michigan; the dedicated nursing staff at Nu Roc Health & Rehabilitation Center in Laona, Wisconsin; and the exceptional team at Moments Hospice with a special thank you to Nurse Jordan and Director Cassie for your compassion, empathy, kindness, and unwavering support during Tom's final journey. Your care brought comfort not only to Tom, but to our entire family, and we will always be grateful.
