HANCOCK -- James “Jim” R. Grasseschi left us to be with the Lord on September 17, 2026, at the age of 85.
Jim was born on August 3, 1941, in Hancock, Michigan, to Dorino and Irene Grasseschi. He was the eldest of six children.
Following high school, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his military service, he pursued higher education, earning his undergraduate degree from Michigan Technological University, and later a master’s degree from the University of Detroit.
In January 1970, Jim met the love of his life, Cathy. Their connection was immediate, and they were married in August of that same year. Together they built a loving home and raised their family in Troy, Michigan, sharing 56 years of marriage filled with devotion, companionship, and cherished memories.
Jim was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Membership Chairman. He took great pride in supporting his children and was a familiar presence at his son’s sporting events, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.
Professionally, Jim enjoyed his career as an accountant. He worked for 30 years in the Internal Auditing Department at Blue Cross Blue Shield.
In his leisure time, Jim found joy in playing golf, solving puzzles, reading history and nonfiction books, and watching sports.
Above all, Jim will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his generous spirit, and his steadfast faith. He touched many lives through his kindness, wisdom, and willingness to serve others.
Jim’s memory will be cherished by his beloved wife, Cathy, his family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Beloved husband of Cathy. Loving father of Steven, Michael (Kendra), and David (Susan). Proud grandfather of Darius, Dakota, Dante, Jack and Anna. Dearest brother of Daniel (the late Barbara), Robert (Susan), Kathleen, John (Lauren) and Ann Marie (Jeff) Vollrath.
Family received friends Monday, September 21, 2026, at A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, Price Chapel, 3725 Rochester Road, Troy 48084. Knights of Columbus Rosary and Chalice Ceremony was held at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, September 22, at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 471 John R Road, Troy.
