CALUMET -- Nancy Elaine Heikkila of Calumet, MI and Boynton Beach, FL passed away on July 10, 2026, at Medilodge in Milford, MI. Nancy was born on April 15, 1946, in Detroit, MI to parents Waino and Elaine Kallio. She grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Mackenzie High School. She is also a honorary member of the class of 1959 for Calumet H.S.
She met the love of her life; Gerald Heikkila and they were married in June 1972. They lived most of their lives in Calumet, but many years later purchased a home in a senior park in Boynton Beach, FL where they vacationed. When they retired, they sold their home in Calumet and moved to Florida permanently. At the senior park, they developed many relationships and had a large circle of friends. They would get together often and had many activities and events led by Nancy before her illness. Nancy was loved by many there and known for her spark of fun.
Nancy worked as the Supervisor of Mail Services at Michigan Tech University in Houghton, and at the Detroit Board of Education.
Nancy was incredibly loving. She also loved to socialize. She was willing to help people in any way she could. She loved her neighbors and friends like family. She gave the best hugs; a burst of laughter at most things; wonderful, caring, positive spirit, and entertainer.
She loved to travel, connect with others, and learn about the world around her. She had a warm, happy-go-lucky spirit and seemed to make friends wherever she went. She was always smiling and on the go. Nancy brought energy and kindness into every room she entered. She was generous with her time, attention, and her heart, leaving a lasting impression on the people who knew her.
She was a strong woman. She had no problem being a leader or taking over. She hosted many get togethers throughout her life and had the amazing energy to make people come together.
She loved Gerry and always wanted to make sure that he was happy. Even through her illness, she remained positive, happy, and open to meeting new people with open arms. Her friendship will be missed by many.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Waino and Elaine Kallio and her brother, Gerald
(Jerry) Kallio.
She is survived by her husband Gerald; sisters Janet Rosenberger and Karen Wendl; nieces and nephews Richard Rosenberger (Renae), Marcia Stewart (Mark), Terri Douglas (Greg), Linda Comps (Dawson), Steve Kallio (Connie McMillan), and Richard Blanchard; also surviving are numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A service for Nancy Heikkila will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet, Michigan at 11:00am on Saturday September 19, 2026. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:00am at the church.
