James Barroga

HANCOCK -- James T. Barroga, 81, a resident of Hancock, passed away Sunday October 4, 2026, at UP Health System - Portage Hospital shortly after being admitted.

He was born on November 4, 1944, in Dixon, IL, a son of the late James and Fern (Tilton) Barroga.

On August 26, 1972, he was united in marriage to the former Patricia Peltier, at St. Joseph's Church in Hancock. The couple had made their home in Dollar Bay before moving to make their home in Hancock. On February 23, 2020, Patty preceded Jimmy in death.

Jimmy had started working in the Maintenance/Housekeeping Departments at St. Joesph'sHospital in Hancock and retired from UP Health System – Portage after over 40 years of service to the organization.

Jimmy was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock and would hardly ever miss going to church each week. In his younger days he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and helping on the bench for the Portage Lake Pioneers. Jimmy loved being outdoors working on projects and visiting with family and friends. He was a kind person that let his child's heart show, he enjoyed visiting with and making friends at any given moment.

Later in Jimmy's life he was happy to have found and meet his half brothers and sisters.

Preceding him in death were his wife Patty, his parents, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

His brother-in-law: Robert (Marian) Peltier

His special nieces that helped lookout for him over the past few years; Gina Hill and Carol Peterson and a nephew who became his guardian Don Hill

His special cousin Sandy McCormick

Several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Jimmy will be held 2:00 pm Friday October 9, 2026, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service - Hancock Chapel with Rev. Peter Vorhes to officiate. Interment will be in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Columbarium.

Friends may call on Friday October 9, 2026, from 1:00pm until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service - Hancock Chapel.
