Trump is eerily close to getting his wish - King powers

The Republicans’ greatest allies are the Democrats. They make error after error and repeat their errors. They say a dog goes back to its poop. Well, maybe that would explain it.

In the spirit of March Madness basketball, the Democrats will jump for the “head fake” and simply go the wrong way, every time. It is sad to see. For example, the Save America Act is a tool in President Donald Trump’s toolbox. He is using this bill to get rid of the Senate filibuster. He has even stated that he would sign no other bills until this bill has been signed into law.

That is an unprecedented approach. Most provisions can be passed under unanimous consent, but Trump will not compromise (I believe that even if passed, it would violate states’ rights per our constitution). It is not really about the Save America Act. It is an act that will ultimately not save America but will make Trump a king. And for Trump, that means “saving America.”

In the meantime, we have wars, the salacious Epstein files, unpaid TSA workers, angry Americans unnecessarily waiting in long lines at airports, and the affordability problem getting dramatically worse. Our current path gives us neither peace nor prosperity. That is not what Americans voted for.

Trump rules like a dictator. Dictators cannot spell “compromise” and don’t know what it means. They question why they need to compromise since caring for others is not high on their list of priorities. That is all the more reason why Democrats must find ways to compromise. Otherwise extremists win and America will lose.

Democrats, you are allowing all the bad that has happened in the last 15 months to be passed over in your attempt to use traditional measures as the minority against a person who has no desire to play the political game. He merely wants to have kingly powers – period.

Democrats, you saw just months ago Trump’s willingness to close the entire government down. Trust me, it would still be closed if a handful of Democrats had not been smart enough to leave their caucus and vote to pass a continuing resolution to reopen government. And when all was said and done their demands did not materialize.

So what do the “not-too-bright” Democrats do? They repeat the same mistake but on a smaller target – funding for the Department of Homeland Security. So they banged their heads against a wall once and got nothing and now they use the exact same tactic but this time they think they are going to get something. Ok.

Geez, I wish we had a formidable third party.

So, if the Democrats continue to play squash at a tennis match they will not only continue to look ridiculous, but they will give us a Trump on steroids. If the Senate filibuster is removed, Trump will legally be able to rollover 330 million Americans as one-party rule would be in place.

Democrats totally underestimate Trump and think he is a buffoon. That is part of Trump’s “charm” – kind of like the TV detective “Colombo.” Democrats are “too damn emotional” and petty.

For Trump, well, like other failed leaders in history, he suffers from too much bravado. That is ill placed and wears thin, just like his “trust me” or “I-would-not-fool-you” approach. His impulsive decision-making and lack of a strategy for exiting the Iran war are also ingredients for hardship and disaster. Just ask Napoleon who went to Waterloo and Adolph Hitler who went to Russia without thinking through their next move.

Trump is beating Hitler in one category but is behind in another one, which is crucial: gaining full legislative control. Hitler gained this power via the passage of the Enabler Act of 1933.

But Trump is ahead of Hitler in another category. Trump has fired on or has made aggressive moves to potentially “take over” more countries and places like the Gaza Strip (with Israel), Venezuela, Iran, and Cuba. He has repeatedly mentioned taking over Canada (not happening) and Greenland. And all this in a 15-month period that even the infamous Hitler could not match (he annexed Austria in 1938, took Czechoslovakia and Poland in 1939). It took Hitler 18 months to do what Trump has been attempting to do in 15.

Not having any belief in the 23rd Psalm can be very dangerous and expensive – “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil.” We have the boogeyman complex. Maybe because of our actions we should fear all evil. If so, we will become bankrupt as a nation. We will no longer need the nation’s motto “In God we trust” to hang on the wall in Congress.

In the spirit of other expansionist leaders of the past, Trump wants to dramatically increase war spending. He is asking Congress for a whopping $200 billion to be added to our already crippling near $39 trillion national debt.

One day (no offense to the mighty War Industrial Base, formerly known as the Defense Industrial Base) we must realize that we can produce all the bows and arrows than anyone else in the world but they could become as useful as they were for the Native Americans centuries ago. Our expensive equipment and missiles could become much less effective in the face of cheap, mass-produced drones.

And we must not forget the popular Bible story of the young David. He found the one vulnerable spot on Goliath and brought down the strongest man in the world with an unorthodox weapon – a slingshot and stone. Could oil be America’s weak spot?

And yet there are still Republicans who cheer Trump on and support him, instead of intervening to create a check on his power. And they must not, regardless of Trump’s temper tantrums, remove the filibuster. It is the last line of defense from us anointing a king.

Democrats, the ball is also in your court. Trump knows exactly what he wants (to be king) and he knows how to get it.

May God help America. I pray that we will see soon that there is more to be gained with loving our neighbor than with hating our neighbor. If we can love our neighbor, there will be little that we need to fear.
