Giving Tuesday worth taking time to donate for

For the third year, the Portage Health Foundation is raiding money for local charities through its Giving Tuesday.

The program that PHF has dubbed “Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is” is one where the PHF will match up to $100,000 total in donations made to local non-profits as part of Giving Tuesday, which will take place on Dec. 3.

Giving Tuesday is held annually the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving and is intended to be a bit of an altruistic alternative to the big shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which officially kick off the holiday season.

In our story in Wednesday’s paper, we mentioned that the deadline for applications was 3:30 p.m. It is actually 4:30 p.m., so that is one more hour for non-profits to get involved. The five-question application can be can found at giving-tuesday-2019-phf.paperform.co.

In the past two years, PHF has raised more than $275,000 for non-profits in the four-county area with some 11 organizations getting money last year.

To be eligible, organizations must: be a charitable 501(c)(3); have up-to-date financial reports, not be a religious or educational institution; and have a mission related to Portage Health Foundation’s Five Pillars of Emphasis (health education, health research, community health, healthcare leaders and access to care) or raise funds for a specific project related to them.
