Go ahead and ‘Stuff a blue goose’

Starting this weekend, troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post and five local grocery stores in Baraga and Houghton counties will be working together to host a special series of events known as “Stuff a blue goose.”

We at the Daily Mining Gazette cannot express how important events like these are.

The events are being held in conjunction with the 2019 Michigan Harvest Gathering Campaign with the intention of raising hunger awareness and providing food to local food pantries.

The troopers will be at Pat’s Foods in L’Anse and Calumet, Econo Foods in Houghton, Larry’s Market in Baraga and Louie’s Super Foods in Lake Linden. They will be there to assist wiht the collection of donated food items and to answer any questions regarding the food drive.

The first collection will take place Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Larry’s Market in Baraga. On Wednesday, collection will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Econo Foods in Houghton. The collection in Lake Linden will take place at Louie’s Super Foods from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18.

Pat’s Foods in both Calumet and L’Anse will make the final collections on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All of the grocery stores will have pre-made grab bags available for the public to purchase which will have non-perishable food items worth $10 or more.

There really is a significant need for further food items in our local pantries, so any help and participation you can offer will go a long way towards helping others who need it.
