Walk for the poor succesful

To the editor:

On September 14, of this year, our local St. Vincent de Paul sponsored its fourth annual “Friends of the Poor Walk” to help the needy families in the CLK area.

This year we had a unique partnership with Main Street, “Zumba with Royale” Calumet Township and Calumet Village. Between the walk, the zumba, the sponsorships, and the raffle, we were blessed to have made $6500. This will help at between 25 – 30 families in the coming months. Our group makes home visits and tries to refer to resources, help with budgeting, encourage job search, help cover some needed emergency expenses, and just be a listening ear.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Father Abraham and the staff of the Keweenaw Catholic Community, Royale Walter, Kelsey Johnson, Bobbi Jo Kositzky and the Zumba participants, Main Street Staff and Volunteers, Paul Lehto and Calumet Township, Dave Geisler and Calumet Village, Jeff at Bohemia Printing, the Daily Mining Gazette, radio media, especially Todd at the WOLV /K-bear, all the wonderful businesses who sponsored a logo or line ad for our T-shirts, the great raffle items from area businesses, the staff of Aspirus Keweenaw Home Nursing and Hospice for their staff donations from their “Casual for a Cause,” all the walkers who came out to enjoy the beautiful day, the people who pledged, or donated in any way, the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus who came and provided an honor guard and their spiritual support, the guys from the Phoenix House for helping their help, Elmore Reese from Main Street and of course to the caring and hard working volunteers from our local St. Vincent de Paul, Main Street, and ZumbawithRoyale. We also thank the Keweenaw Coffee Works for donating the awesome coffee for the workers!

Thank you for helping our area’s families.

We are truly fortunate to live in such a caring community.

God Bless you all.
