A pat on the back for DMG

To the editor:

The success of our democracy hinges on the electorate being well informed, and kudos to the Daily Mining Gazette for keeping us informed about local issues in the Copper Country since 1858. During election years, the Gazette partners with the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country to bring you the Voters Guide, a highly regarded election resource.

Elections are infrequent, however. Here in the Upper Peninsula it is a challenge to get political news from downstate, particularly news of the actions of our elected officials: the Governor, the Michigan State Legislature, our Senators, and our Representatives. Unless we explicitly seek out this information, it is easy to miss something and to feel disconnected from the rest of Michigan. Thankfully, new technology presents a solution to this dilemma. For smart-phone and internet streamers, up-to-date Michigan news is now available on Michigan Radio, an affiliate of National Public Radio (apps available on the major smart-phone platforms). The league of Women Voters of the Copper Country encourages all residents of the U.P. to check out this service, a great way to stay a well-informed Michigander.

Sincerely

Faith A. Morrison
