Different salutes for motorists

To the editor:

I write this letter on behalf of the road cyclists of the Copper Country. We frequently ride on the shoulders of the road. Sometimes there’s a bike path, and sometimes there is just somewhat of a shoulder to ride. For the most part, I ride on M203. The bike path there is anywhere from about 2-3 feet in width.

When riding, I always appreciate hearing a vehicle coming from behind that is going over the rumble strip. I salute you for going around the bikers of the Copper Country.

Better yet is the person that totally goes into the opposite lane when there is no oncoming traffic to make sure that they do not pose any risk of harm to us bikers. You get two thumbs up.

To those drivers who choose to ride the fog line next to us, when you could safely veer over, you get the one-finger salute.
