Some people are guardians

To the editor:

Living on a farm by the Mohawk-Gay Road, our garbage pickup by Waste Management for the Mohawk-Fulton area is on Wednesday.

We are the last one down our way where the truck turns around. I always get the garbage together on Tuesday evening and place the can into the back of my plow truck. On Wednesday morning I bring it our by the highway.

I should mention that I am 83 years old, and my wife is in at home hospice care. With so many other things on my mind, recently I forgot to take the garbage out to the highway.

The hummingbird feeder was empty, so I went out to the porch to get it when I noticed the garbage truck back down to our driveway.

I gave the driver, who is very dependable, a wave and ran to my plow truck and brought the can to the road.

I only know his first name, which is Josh, and I have no doubt that if he hadn’t seen any sign of life around he would have notified the Sheriff’s Department to check it out.

It occurred to me that all delivery or pickup people, garbage, newspaper carriers, UPS and Fedex are sort of guardians for all of us. Thank you, Josh!
