James v. Peters is a key race

To the editor:

A vote for John James is a vote for Mitch McConnell. One of your readers argues that Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., has done nothing for Michigan.

I don’t know. Check his website.

John James is the hand-picked Republican candidate running against Peters. James is an admirable candidate. He was a helicopter pilot, who flew combat missions, from what I read.

James also started a business, which is successful. James is Black at a time when Black Lives Matter.

We should be electing more Blacks. But it bothers me that a vote for James is a vote for Mitch McConnell, speaker of the Senate, and a Republican from Kentucky.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., tells me if Republicans keep control of the Senate, nothing Democrats want to do will happen. Mitch McConnell will block everything, even if a Democrat is elected president.

Here’s what Democrats want to do: protect voting rights, address climate change, and expand health care, Medicare, and Social Security, among other things. These seem like goals worth pursuing.

Mitch McConnell has run the Congress since 2010. I think it’s time for a change.
