To the editor:

With the election on Tuesday, it’s time to recognize the incredible work of our local election clerks, staff, and poll workers this year. Given the challenges COVID-19 has posed for voter registration, early voting, polling places, and more, these heroes have moved mountains to make voting safe, secure, and accessible this year.

A strong democracy is one where everyone participates, and more than 2 million Michiganders have already voted. Without the resilience and determination of our country’s election workers — including our Copper Country election workers — this kind of voter participation would not be possible. That’s why I’m thankful for our neighbors and community members on November 2 — the first National Election Heroes Day.
