Let them do their job

To the editor:

I assume this phrase sounds pretty familiar: “No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service” — almost!

Have you ever wondered why no one gives pushback about the “imposed dress code” for entering a restaurant, shoes and shirt are required to get served. I’ve not seen anyone out protesting or writing letters to the editor, or taking out full page ads to complain.

Has anyone seen any scientific evidence that not wearing shoes or a shirt will harm or kill anyone? Me neither. Yet all are perfectly willing to go along–no questions asked!

But when we do have proven scientific information that more than 376,000 people in the U.S, have died and 22.6 million have gotten sick in the past nine months, and by wearing a mask we can protect our senior citizens, our neighbors, and our most vulnerable from serious illness and even death, some people refuse? Why?

The WUPHD doesn’t decide whether to enforce a health code depending upon whether it will harm a person or business economically. Where would we be if that was the case?

We would not have any guarantee that our newly-purchased home had drinkable water and nitrates in the well water were not going to kill our infant, or a public beach was safe to swim at, or that our septic system would not pool sewage in our yard, or that a restaurant used sanitary practices in preparing our food, IF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT DID NOT DO THEIR JOB to protect our health and safety. Check out their website to see all of the environmental and public health protections they provide for us (wupdhd.org/) … and put on a mask, along with your shirt and shoes.
