Careful where you put money

To the editor:

Since 2005 my wife and I have owned about seven Toyota cars and trucks, including: a RAV4, a Highlander, a Tacoma, and at least four Tundras. We currently own a Highlander and lease a 2021 Tundra. We have purchased or leased these fine vehicles because we’ve felt they were the best vehicles available, and we’ve been entirely satisfied with them. However, after reading an article in “Bridge Magazine (4/18/21) we will, in the future, re-evaluate our auto purchases because of Toyota’s practice of giving sizable financial support to Michigan State, U.S. Reps. Jack Bergman and Tim Walberg. My wife and I are constituents of Rep. Bergman.

The article in “Bridge Magazine” stated that Toyota and other donors had paused in their political contributions to certain politicians, ‘“…who through their statement and actions, undermine the legitimacy of our elections and institutions.”‘ This following the 6 Jan., 2021 assault on our nation’s capital. Since then, however, Toyota has decided to reverse that position and generously support these politicians who seek to undermine the will of the voters and a free, fair, and honest election.

My wife and I cannot, in good conscience, continue to purchase products from a company that endorses, by their financial support, politicians and who seek to delegitimize our free and honest electoral system. Until such time as Toyota reverses their abhorrent policy of donating to the before-mentioned Reps. and their ilk you may count us out of the Toyota “family” and we will endeavor to convince fellow Toyota owners to do the same.
