Bogus charge in Torch Lake

Dear Editor:

This letter is to address the service charge of $7 assessed on the bills attributed to the Torch Lake Sewer Authority and collected by Munibilling Utility Solutions from Greensboro, NC.

I contacted Munibilling and asked why only Hubbell and people served by Michigan-American Water Co. as assessed and not people on the system in Schoolcraft Township since they pay their bill to the Lake Linden Village without the $7 added. A person from Munibilling stated it was because they read the meters, which was a blatant lie. I contacted Michigan-American Water Co. and they stated they furnish this information to them.

I addressed the matter to the Michigan Department of Attorney General and a disclaimer was sent to them from Munibilling that no one from their department stated that they read the meters. Another lie.

So, I want to inform the customers of the Torch Lake Sewer Authority to fight this charge. The sewer rate is almost as much as the water bill and a $7 surcharge, that I found, was assessed by the Sewer Authority itself, is exorbitant.

North Houghton County Authority doesn’t assess this on their bills and the customers that are serviced by the Lake Linden Village aren’t either. So, the big question is ‘WHY’ us? Don’t be complacent and accept this charge. I am not paying this and as the letter stated from the Michigan Attorney General’s office is – take them to court!
