Brockway Mountain clean-up

To the editor:

On March 21, 2020, we had a fun, little bike race and reception planned called the Brockway Mountain Challenge. It was a small annual event that supported Copper Harbor’s winter trails. We had several generous supporters, namely the big three – Bell’s Beer, RC Mechanical and Ferrellgas that have continually contributed to our community. Thank you!

There were a few attempts to reschedule, but we were not able to put anything together until May 1, 2021, when we established the Brockway Mountain Clean-up or “Adopt-A-Brockway”. We decided to clean the mountain so, for some reason, rather than riding Fat Bikes we thought it would be fun to pick up dirty diapers, old tires, bottles, and cans! Crazy!

While cleaning Brockway that Saturday, we were quickly reminded of the mountain’s appeal. That day, hundreds of people visited the peak, looking for migrating hawks or making memories by taking proud family photos of their recent graduates. It is a special place on a special day!

We want to thank Gregg Patrick of the Keweenaw Road Commission, Rich Probst the Eagle Harbor Township Supervisor, and Scott Wendt the Grant Township Supervisor for their continued work to preserve and maintain Brockway Mountain. Thank you!

Hopefully, this is a good opportunity to begin the work to fully restore our Brockway Mountain?
