Sowell was right about liberals

To the editor:

To reasonable people, an “armed insurrection” involves the use of firearms, not the possession of non-lethal things like pepper spray for defensive purposes. I am referring to the mislabeled events in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6.

The American Revolution against the British tyranny was a real, armed insurrection that we honor and celebrate. Emerson’s poem, “Concord Hymn” defined it this way: “It was here the embattled farmers stood and fired the shot heard round the world.”

Liberal/progressive and radical leftists who dominate the news media, academia and one major political party do what George Orwell warned about in his book 1984. They distort the meaning of words to promote an Orwellian view of reality through political propaganda.

Thomas Sowell is an African-American whose conservative views were expressed in columns printed in the Gazette for many years. He grew up in Harlem, served in the Korean War and attended Harvard and Columbia Universities. I enjoyed reading what he wrote.

Mr. Sowell said, “Too much of what is called education is little more than expensive isolation from reality.”

That describes the alternate universe inhabited by radical professors and their indoctrinated students.

He also said this about double standards by leftists: “The next time some academics tell you how important diversity is, ask how many conservatives are in their sociology department.”

The answer is probably “none.”

In my previous letter I used the expression “political heresy,” misprinted in the June 15 Gazette as ” here say.” I meant “heresy” not ” here say” to reveal the pseudo religious aspects of political cultism.
