To the editor:
Monday, September 20, Retired City Foreman Daniel Harry is turning 80 years old. Before retiring about 15 years ago, Daniel spent many tireless hours working on projects to improve, beautify and maintain the city of Houghton.
With his fellow coworkers, he spent much of his time building up the downtown waterfront which people continue to enjoy today. Pouring sidewalks, building picnic tables, decks, boat docks and fishing piers.
One of the biggest projects he was very instrumental in was constructing the Houghton Beach, including its RV park, pavilion, and the Chutes and Ladder playground.
He also spent countless nights driving a snow plow in the winter to keep the streets clean and safe for residents. He was also a volunteer fireman for part of his career.
The Daily Mining Gazette featured him and his coworkers in many articles throughout his career. To know him, is to quickly become his friend.
To help him celebrate his birthday, We’re asking for people to surprise him by filling his mailbox with birthday cards and well wishes. His mailing address is 409 W. South St., Houghton, MI 49931.
Please take a moment to drop him a birthday card or note wishing him a Happy 80th.
