STRs in Eagle Harbor

To the editor:

For the past 52 years, I have spent a portion of my summer in Eagle Harbor. My family roots run deep. You can’t walk by a house where I don’t know who lives there or a headstone at Pine Grove that I am most likely related to.

I am far from wealthy, and my parents were far from wealthy but knew that they wanted to keep the family tradition of summers in Eagle Harbor alive and saved to buy a cottage there. Eight years ago, when my mom died, my brother and I inherited it.

So, it is not hard to follow that I am for the SRT ordinance in the village of Eagle Harbor. We, as a community, look out for one another, take care of one another, volunteer, run events, groom trails, donate toys to kids during the holidays, etc. This is a village of people that know, love and take care of one another.

This is not a vacation home. This is home for us. David Moss and others want to change that. I can see the benefit in change, change makes the world go around, but too much change can harm and damage the reason people want to come to this amazing place in the first place.

David Moss, from my understanding, can have two STRs, but he wants five. He wants five because that is what he wants. Yet, he points fingers at those who want what they want if it does not fit his needs. Most people would be lucky to have two STRs on a beautiful lake in the U.P.

Who is the wealthy retiree now?
