To the editor:

We want to express our great appreciation for all those involved in our recent Winter Fun Day. There are many to thank and initially, the DNR who was so kind to let us close the trail for the racers. Ryan LaPorte, president of the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club was instrumental in making this happen and Mike Fig provided a perfectly groomed palette. Eric Waara and the city of Houghton went beyond normal requests to accommodate this event with set up and prizes. Our volunteers were amazing as always: Mike Axford, Dave Bach, Pam and Jim Canady, Sandy Cooney, Bill Fink, Bob Jackson, James Mertens and Joan Suits. The Ski Tigers let us use their bibs for the participants. Pat Moberg and the EMS donated their time to be on hand. Media outlets helped spread the word: the DMG, WOLF, WKMJ, and MTU. Baby E’s agreed to sponsor our Winter Fun Day.

It speaks volumes to our quality of life when an entire community can work together to put on a positive, fun event showcasing the beauty of our area! Some even learned of the skating ribbon in the process. We have it good here!
