ACA, let’s fix it!

To the editor:

In my last two letters to this paper, I wrote of the insanity of the ACA which forced my three children on to Medicaid. I also detailed how the HKD would not reimburse out of network dentists unless parents of Medicaid Recipients were willing to undergo a rather intensive appeal process. Infuriating, yes.

Unjust laws can be infuriating. The ACA categorizes Americans by the type of insurance they have. People who qualify for insurance through their employer must accept that insurance. They are not given a choice of the insurance their employer offers or subsidized marketplace insurance, even though their taxes paid for tax subsidies which made insurance on the exchange affordable. In essence the taxes of people on employer based insurance are paying for the healthcare for those Americans on subsidized marketplace insurance and Medicaid. I find this to be unfair.

So, what is the solution? What if every American could choose Marketplace Exchange Insurance regardless of whether he or she had insurance through his employer or if he qualified for Medicaid? This would give Americans more choices for their healthcare and create a much more equitable system for all. This would also solve the problem of Americans living in the eleven states which have refused to expand Medicaid.

Sincerely,
