Falcons need their boxes
To the editor:
The peregrine falcon nest boxes were originally installed on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge to help keep the rock pigeon numbers down.
The boxes were removed when construction was done on the bridge last year. The construction has been completed.
It appears that MDOT has no intention of allowing the nest boxes to be reinstalled on the bridge. I would like to know why they have reversed their decision.
The falcons have returned to the bridge even though there are no nest boxes. Nesting would be easier for them if they could use the boxes again.
