To the editor:

While canvassing in my neighborhood with the Promote the Vote petition recently, a group of curious youngsters started to accompany me. They were interested in my project, and I enjoyed telling them how important it is for adults to vote to make our country better for children.

Very soon I noticed that residents were much more likely to come to the door when they saw children with me. I told the kids that they have power, and they felt pretty good about that. I also told them how lucky we are to be free to talk about politics — in some countries I would be arrested for asking people to sign a petition

After hearing my spiel about secure, modern, and convenient voting, one of the children, an 8-year-old boy, got involved in my advocacy and eagerly told the woman who came to the door of the next house that she should vote to make our country better for children. My heart nearly burst with pride and joy!
