Faith Perspective: Bible tells story of man’s creation
It doesn’t contradict the Bible to say the universe is millions of years old. Mindless natural forces didn’t create something from nothing. God is the creator.
Dinosaurs existed long before God made man. God exiled Satan to the earth in that prehistoric era. That explains his symbolic reptilian identity (Rev. 12:3-9). Satan’s rebellion ruined the earth (Isaiah 14:12-20), causing it to be dark and flooded:
“… darkness was upon the face of the deep and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters” (Gen. 1:2) God repaired the earth and created new life forms (Gen. 1:3-31).
The creation “days” were eras of thousands of years (2 Peter 3:5-8). Each era began as a 24-hour day that symbolized what followed.
Gen. 1 and 2 describe man’s creation differently. In the first chapter, plants were created first, then animals and finally humans (“male and female He created them”). That was worldwide.
Gen. 2 describes the creation of two of those first humans. Adam was created first, in an area without vegetation (verses 5-7) that later flourished (8-9). God then created animals for Eden, and Adam named them (18-20). Eve was created last.
God created multiple ancestors for the human family for different regions and climates.
the Bible doesn’t say the daughter of Adam and Eve married their brothers. Who were their husbands if no other humans existed?
Notice Gen. 6:2: The “sons of God” married the “daughters of men.” Those “sons of God ” were humans, not angelic beings. Jesus said angels never marry (Matt. 22:29-30). Adam is “the son of God” (Luke 3:38) because he wasn’t born but was created. That is also true of sons of God who married daughters of men.”
