Hardee’s was recycled

To Allan Baker and his mischaracterization of events,

Here are the facts regarding the demolition of the former Hardees building.

The statement, “No part of the former Hardees building was saved to be recycled. It all went to the dump,” is wrong. The metal went into the recycle stream. The concrete blocks were recycled. The asphalt was sent to be recycled. The bricks were placed into the recycling system. Additionally, the stainless steel was reused/repurposed. The commercial doors were saved for others to reuse. The interior windows were salvaged. A rooftop unit was given away for another’s use. Electric panels, a furnace, and many other pieces were removed before demolition for future usefulness.

Also, you said you saw “structural glass.” What? Glass is not structural.

Tell me, Mr. Baker, did you ask anyone? Did you follow the trucks to know where they were going? How were you able to make so many false assertions?

The solution according to Mr. Baker is for more government intervention (as opposed to seeking to know the facts, which should be the first course of action).

Finally, based on an editorial without a shred of truth, the City of Houghton picked up the torch with a pending Resolution to address a problem that never occurred at the former Hardees building. It is my hope the Councilors will insist on the facts before resting on an erroneous statement to make policy.
