God's law is powerful

TO THE EDITOR:

Old Testament believers followed God’s teachings which changed their behavior and beliefs. Jesus had yet to be born and shed his blood to cover all sin. Lives change when people get saved. They sing a new song when they trust the Lord. (Psalm 98:1-9)

Today, similar changes also occur in those who have been born again. Their lives change. They sing a “new song” rather than the previous cry of hopelessness and moanings from the burden of sin that bound and robbed them of their joy.

They find a new

1. joy, happiness and purpose,

2. birth,

3. life (new mind),

4. day filled with second chances,

5. heart, and

6. outlook (life seen differently).

Someone once said, “Don’t look back. You’re going to sin in that direction. You have a new destination.” This means to move forward in faith, focusing on God’s purpose for one’s life rather than dwelling on the past. It’s a reminder that staying rooted in past mistakes or regrets can hinder progress towards God’s intended direction. If ever getting back to basic Bible teaching concerning God is needed, it’s right now. The most accurate and inclusive word of God is found in the King James Version. The Ten Commandments are the foundation for a Christian understanding of morality. Memorize and speak them out loud daily.

The first commandment concerns the object of our worship, Jehovah, and Him alone. Sinning against this commandment means giving glory and honour to another, which is due only to God. Pride makes oneself a god. Covetousness makes money a god. The belly makes sensuality a god. Whatever we more esteem, love, fear, serve, or depend on more than God (whatever it is) we do in effect make a god of.

Today’s culture pulls children in numerous directions so that it’s easy for “little g” gods to get the affection of their hearts. Therefore it’s reasonable that parents should guide their children to be firmly planted in the truth of God’s first commandment. God’s Law is powerful.
