Heartfelt Thanks

Dear Community,

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible support and kindness you all have shown. I got turned around in the woods, and at the time I was not nervous at all. If anything, I was worried about my loved ones and how they were doing. I knew I had to keep moving, so the next morning back on foot I went. I found myself on the edge of Poyhonen road around 3:30 & I sat there knowing someone at some point will ride by. I got picked up around 4 p.m., this put me out in the woods for just under 24 hours. They dropped me off up the road at the DNR station.

Your generosity, time, and effort humbled me to say the least. Whether it was through volunteering your time, donations of food/drink, spreading the word, thoughts or prayers. Your actions have truly demonstrated the strength and compassion of the community. It is heartwarming to see how everyone comes together in times of need.

On behalf of myself, my family & friends, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness and dedication humbled me; I am and will forever be grateful.

If I have forgotten anyone, please forgive me,

Thank you ~

Houghton County Sheriff Office, Keweenaw County Sheriff Office, Keweenaw Search and Rescue, Superior Search and Rescue, Baraga County Search and Rescue, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Twin Lakes Fire Department, Adam’s Township Fire Department. To the countless strangers & friends – taking part in searching for me.

Thank you, to the countless amount of strangers & friends for taking part in searching for me. To the unknown man who brought me to the DNR station. Also to Mike for setting up a spot for my family that drove up 9 hours to search for me, a place to stay. Along with letting me hunt in your spot. Thank you to Casandra & Josh (Krupp’s Resort) and Troy & Tina from (Krupp’s Mini Mart) for all you did.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Disappointed

Editor:

Last week there was a cartoon published in the paper that made a gross generalization regarding behavior by Democrats as people incapable of saying nice things.

I don’t care if it’s Democrats or Republicans, but I don’t want to see this divisive and and wrong-headed rage-bait in my local paper. Democrats are my neighbors. Republicans are my neighbors. This is my community. We have a serious problem nationally in which anger on the internet sells, and members of our society who are isolated and on the fringes are taking things into their own hands in terrible ways. We do not need to heighten this discourse.

We all need to do better.
