Power Outage Thank You
Editor:
The Bootjack Fire & Rescue Department wants to thank the following businesses and organizations that stepped up to help the community during the recent Thanksgiving season extended weather related power outage that affected Houghton and Keweenaw Counties.
Bootjack Fire & Rescue Foundation and auxiliary for opening and staffing their fire hall which has back up power to both buildings. This allowed for water, sewage, cooking facilities, and acted as a warm-up center for area residents.
They provided hot coffee, water, juices, and food to displaced residents that had no running water, heat, or way to cook food. Something as simple as being able to charge your cell phone for communications with emergency services and family was possible.
Local businesses including Loading Zone, Louie’s Fresh Market, Dreamland Hotel for supplying food and support to the department. Tom & Denise Moyle who arranged for rooms at the AmericInn. Area residents that had backup power for opening their homes up to neighbors that did not have power. Houghton County OEM Chris Van Arsdale for coordinating emergency services in the counties updating emergency service agencies keeping us and the public informed. To all the area fire departments that ran on-service call in their communities continuously throughout the storm.
Special thanks to all crews from UPPCO and support crews that worked around the clock to restore power as soon as safely possible.
Sincerely,
Dan Sarazin
Bootjack Fire & Rescue Department
