Canceled school days
Editor:
To the Michigan legislators, and local school boards. Is educational time important? Would you introduce legislation, or pass school policies to make up all canceled school days, restoring a true 180 days of educational time?
Yes, I understand the main reason days are canceled. It’s for the safety of students, and staff during weather related events. However, there are many remaining safe days which to choose from when education time can be made up. After all, everyone has been paid for the days. Operational funds have been budgeted for the days. Why not make the days up, put the time in? Seems the only ones losing in this case are the students.

Explaining Human Life
Editor:
Try asking AI “What is Life?” or “What is human life?” or “What is human life from a biblical worldview perspective?” Most responses are surprisingly quite good.
1. AI claims that “Life is a complex phenomenon defined by a set of biological processes, including organization, metabolism, homeostasis and adaptation. It is the condition that distinguishes living organisms from non-living entities and is characterized by the ability to sustain itself, grow, and evolve over time.” The next two responses by AI are not direct quotes.
2. AI further suggests human life is the existence of a human being from birth to death, encompassing physical, emotional and social experiences. Biologically speaking, it is the period of development for the Homo sapiens species, beginning at conception with a fertilized egg and continuing until death. Subjectively and philosophically, it involves both life’s purpose and experiences which are so often defined by a person’s growth, relationships, and societal contributions.
3. From a biblical perspective AI also says that human life is a sacred gift from God. It has inherent value because humans are created in the image of God. This means life has a divine purpose, i.e., to glorify God, reflect His nature, and be stewards of His creation. Human life is thought of as a combination of both spiritual and physical existence. Although fallen by sin, humans have the potential for redemption through Christ.
So then being human, I would answer as follows. As a Christian, I build my worldview totally on God’s Word beginning with Genesis 1:1. Humans consist of only two genders, i.e., male and female, and are made in God’s image right from conception. (Genesis 1:27) At fertilization we are fully human. Read Psalm 51:5 and Romans 5:12.
Because man rebelled against his Creator, he brought sin and judgment of death into the world. Thus, man was separated from God. But our heavenly Father provided a way for our sins to be paid so that our relationship with our Creator could be restored. (John 3:16)
God provided his Son, Jesus, to become the perfect, sinless God-man to pay the penalty for our sin by dying in our place, conquering death, and the free gift of salvation and eternal life to all who will receive it. (Romans 10:9-10) Choose life in this world and in the world to come. ( Deut. 30:1-20)
