Letter to the Editor
Hancock library matters
Dear Editor:
Hancock has a real jewel in the Hancock School Public Library, and the city, school and residents must come together to keep it thriving.
I usually roll my eyes at the expression “safe place,” but that is exactly what this library is — a joyous, welcoming place where students seem happy and respected. It’s remarkable to see them all cheerfully jammed in during their lunch periods. With all the challenges facing these kids, this library is essential.
And, as a resident, I greatly appreciate the care and professionalism of the staff, the creative displays, the unique Library of Things, and the wonderful and diverse collection of reading materials.
It would be terribly shortsighted for Hancock to lose, or even cut back on, this true gem. If that means a millage, bring it on.
