Supports Prestin for Senate
To the editor: I spent years as a constituent services staffer in the Michigan House of Representatives, where I worked directly for Rep. Dave Prestin and his predecessor, former Rep. Beau LaFave. My job was to help them serve the people of the Upper Peninsula, by listening to concerns, cutting through red tape, and navigating state government. That experience taught me the importance of having the best person to represent the Upper Peninsula.
I am now retired and no longer work for the state legislature. Born and raised in the U.P., my roots here still run deep. Many of my family members and friends reside across the Peninsula; from Ontonagon to Newberry, and Hancock to Curtis. I want for them a state senator who will protect the U.P. and its unique way of life.
My support for Dave Prestin as a U.P. state senator comes from firsthand knowledge, not politics. Dave Prestin genuinely cares about people. While I worked for him, I was impressed by how involved he was with helping those he represents. He wants know what is happening in his community and he follows through on people’s issues and concerns. Not all legislators are like that.
I often talked to people across the state who said they called our office because their representative was unresponsive. Rep. Prestin makes it very clear to his staff by instruction and by example that taking care of people in the U.P. is his priority. I helped Rep. Prestin solve problems for people who make parts, harvest timber and process pulp, teach, fish, care for the elderly or those needing mental health support, drive big rigs, raise sheep, pigs or cows, or work in the mines, tourism, prisons or healthcare.
That spirit has been consistent through his many years as a paramedic and county commissioner, as well as his family’s commitment to their employees, schools, sports boosters and 4H. I believe anyone who’s met them agrees that he and his family take care of people.
Dave Prestin has the right heart for this work. I urge you to do your part and vote Dave Prestin for State Senate in the August 4th primary and then again in the November 3rd general election.
Sincerely,
Grace Farley, Former Legislative Staffer
Bennington Township
More support for Prestin
Editor:
We are writing this to express our support for Dave Prestin, who is running for State Senate of the 38th District. We have known Dave for years. He is hard working, a family man, and a first responder. He cares deeply about the U.P. and its residents. Dave supports our mining and timber industries and defends private property rights. But he fights government overreach!
Dave has fought for sportsmen by working to both establish a UP specific natural resources commission and prevent DNR officials from entering private property without a warrant. He is the only Republican candidate who has owned a small business, so he knows what’s needed to make it successful.
His qualities, experience, and leadership make him the best choice to represent the U.P. in Lansing. We urge you to vote for Dave Prestin in August.
Thank you!

Getting it right
Editor:
Bright new days may lie ahead for the USA. Indeed, free food, free housing and medical care for everyone at no cost to anyone. Just think what a wonderful country that would be. A few impediments stand in the way.
Some grudgingly complain it’s not at all possible-someone’s got to pay. Presently, it’s the working-class paying the bills, which they don’t seem to mind whatsoever. They know the taxes they pay will be wisely spent by our dedicated senators and congressmen. Hard-working citizens are glad to pay taxes regardless of how much taxes are increased.
How about the millionaires and billionaires? They’ve got to be reined in to provide for the poor among us. Look at Elon Musk. That guy is sitting on a trillion dollars. He’s got to be brought down to earth like the rest of us. How selfish that guy is. A trillion dollars — with that kind of dough the entire population of the U.S. and all the welcomed sojourners from the south of the border can be nourished and sustained. Bread, wine and cheese for everyone. Come one, come all, and join us at the table.
A million dollars (or even less} should be enough for Musk to live comfortably. Elon should no longer wallow in a vast sea of wealth while many go hungry. Likewise for the billionaire class who pay much, much less than their fair share.
How about Elon Musk’s enterprises? Did he build all those rockets by himself? I doubt that he even once dirtied his hands. I’ll bet the most he ever did was fly paper airplanes in grade school like the rest of us. I submit that a hundred thousand, of competent, well-meaning government officials should be able to take over and manage Space X and Tesla much better than Musk. One guy over large enterprises? It is to laugh.
Now you’re hearing right-wing MAGA types whimper about mail-in votes and a lack of voter registration. So what. Many of the unfortunates among us lack means of registering or reaching the polls on election day. In fairness, all the votes should be counted, even after election day. No doubt Musk has his hands in this denial.
One last thing: I’ll say that Elon’s last name is most appropriate — I can smell that “Musk” all the way over here and it lacks a fragrant bouquet.
More like a skunk.
