Made in God’s Image
To the Editor:
The idea that humans are made in the image of God comes from Genesis 1:27 of the KJV Bible which states, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Thus both equally possess an eternal spirit capable of personal fellowship with their Creator. Men and women share all spiritual attributes not shared by animals, i.e., moral conscience, appreciation of beauty, abstract thought, and especially the capacity to worship and love God.
The framework of the United States Constitution assumes a moral universe where rights aren’t granted by the state but are recognized and secured by it. The Declaration of Independence explicitly affirms all men “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” Such language is not accidental. Rights originating from God cannot be revoked nor infringed upon by our government. They belong equally to all humans. In the same way the Bill of Rights doesn’t create freedoms but rather recognizes them to be pre-existing realities grounded in natural law.
A shared commitment to the equal worth of each person makes America clearly American. By returning to our country’s founding principles, we try to create “a more perfect Union.” Renowned leaders like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, and even Billy Graham and Ronald Reagan appealed to our country’s foundational truths. Continuity matters because it teaches America’s vision of liberty is inseparable from a moral claim about human nature. Every life has intrinsic value which reflects something about God.
Currently debates arise about abortion and euthanasia. Take the industry of commercial surrogacy. It involves the commodification of children which reduces them to a piece of merchandise. End-of-life bills are often said to be compassionate. Yet the Bible clearly states that God determines a person’s days. Read Psalm 139:16 and Job 14:5. This role belongs to God alone. If dignity is rooted in a benefit to society, then people dealing with illness, disability or old age should also be seen as worthy. When dignity is rooted in the image of God, as in our American framework, it is not diminished with suffering. Our Constitution insists that all human beings, without exception, have inherent worth and must be protected.
America’s promise is that we’ve got a standard by which to measure right and wrong. Our every decision must ultimately determine: Does it honor the image of every human life? Only if yes are we preserving every American. To defend life is to defend the image of God.

Beau LaFave is the best choice in the upcoming primary

Tuesday, August 4th, is Primary Election Day. The Republican 38th State Senate race is a crucial race to consider. I am fully supporting former Representative Beau LaFave.
In the beginning I did not care for either candidate. But after meeting Beau, I was impressed with him and found him to be superior to the numerous politicians and leaders I have dealt with in the past. The main thing that stood out was that what you see with Beau is the real deal. He doesn’t pretend and when he says and believes something, he doesn’t back down. A plus is he has integrity and lots of knowledge.
Beau is a lifelong Upper Peninsula resident. He served three terms as State Representative for the 108th District and then 3 years as a legislative director/chief of state for the 110th District. He is a lawyer and graduate from Wayne State Law School. He is endorsed by Congressman Jack Bergman.
You may not see as many LaFave signs around. Beau only wants his signs to be placed on owner approved property. He doesn’t want to clutter the highways with signs that don’t mean anything. His opponent’s signs in my area are mainly just placed in random spots.
You may not see or hear as many advertisements for Beau. His opponent is getting a lot more contributions because it is known that Beau cannot be bought. Dave Prestin is getting major contributions from traditional democrat sources - labor unions, democratic commissioners.
Representative Beau LaFave wrote a bill for Constitutional Carry while Prestin wouldn’t cosponsor a bill for it. Beau never voted to increase taxes. Prestin voted five times to increase taxes - gas, vehicle registration, weed, unemployment, and income tax.
Beau wants a moratorium on all data centers in the Upper Peninsula until it can be proven that they will not increase electricity prices and then only local control and no tax breaks. Prestin has mentioned that he thought data centers would solve the Upper Peninsula’s energy problem and voted for tax breaks for them. Now he is backtracking on that and says it would be functionally impossible for data centers to operate in the Upper Peninsula so we don’t have to concern ourselves with them.
After looking into both candidates, Beau LaFave is the clear choice for our area and I hope the voters send Beau back to Lansing to fight for our area.

Replacement Daddy

President Trump has been working hard to position himself as the god-like creator of a new "Golden Age" right here in America.
Now laying claim to be the replacement daddy of the working class, he told auto workers in Michigan, "I've done more for you than your parents." (Independent, 7-27-26)
Is it just me, or does it seem a bit delusional to claim to have done more for young workers than parents laboring for eighteen years to provide housing, food, clothing, education, and emotional support to children?
Our #47 is eerily reprising the Soviet communist tactic of asking citizens to accept the government as the true parent of the nation's children. All this, while in the same speech naming Democrats as the actual communists!
Also, there would be "no auto industry" if he hadn't been elected in 2024, a claim quite like his earlier claim, "there might not be a Middle East" without his efforts there.
Is there no end to the grace provided by America's new savior of the world?
