Filling holes
Dear Editor:
This letter is to fill in some “holes” left by your “Summer Happenings” section in the Saturday, June 25 edition.
Keweenaw Week is sponsored by the Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club each year. Mineral Days was run by Michigan Tech, and has not been active for some time. They do, however, support the CCRMC with a lecture and very popular surplus mineral sale at the Seaman Mineral Museum.
Keweenaw Week is a very popular event and sells out each year. As such, This year’s activities are full. If anyone is interested in Keweenaw Week next year, they should go to the club website: CCRMC.info on or shortly after April 15, 2027. All information will be posted at that date.
Also, your supplemental page failed to mention the CCRMC Rock and Mineral Show that has occurred each year immediately following Keweenaw Week for the last 25+ years. This year’s show is August 7, 8, and 9 at the Hancock Middle School. Hours are as follows:
Friday, 1-8pm, Saturday, 10am-6pm and Sunday, 10am-2pm. Admission has always been free. There are activities and free grab bags for children, Copper detecting, silent auctions, nine dealers who have a wide variety of rocks, minerals and jewelery and special lectures by noted Geologist and author, Nathalie Brandes. There is even a special cast of a dinosaur!
This is a great family event and we hope to see lots of people there over the three days.
Thank you,
Elizabeth Whelan
