Navy Street Extension Saga seems to be heating up

The Hancock City Manager at one time was heard to say something to the effect of excusing herself from decision making on the Navy Street extension issue. However even now, the Mayor, Hancock City Council and DDA Members seemed to have all lost their administrative independence and ability to think, reason and act as individuals, and are ruling based upon the will of the Hancock City Manager.
That mind set obviously took a change in direction beginning at the April 15th 2026 City Council meeting. The issue of spending DDA funding for a Navy Street extension is now being questioned. Until recently, our City Administration has had control through its puppet string connection with the Mayor, City Council & DDA members in promoting the development of the Navy Street extension. Kudos to those in the City Council and DDA who have cut puppet strings and now have opened up their eyes and ears to expose the Navy Street extension's "Elephant in the Room", an obvious boondoggle, being a wasteful, unsafe, unnecessary, and extravagant project, proposed to be funded by public downtown development money, with little to no practical value except to one related individual.
On the positive side, the secretive push of the Navy Street Extension by city administrators has kindled an ember in the dark that might not ever have been recognized by its taxpayers.
The close family relationship between various appointed city Officials having control of city purse strings and one related developer is near the verge of unbelievable, and needs to be "In Check." Without these unmentionables, the issue of the Navy Street boondoggle would have never come to head.
We only hope that this is not an example of other frivolous diverted spending of City of Hancock taxpayer's monies intended for necessary Hancock City improvements.

Our own concentration camps

"Terrible things are happening outside … poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared."
Is this describing ICE? No, this is from the diary of Anne Frank on January 13, 1943, that is stating what Hitler's Gestapo were doing to Jews, Gypsies, and other "undesirables" in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and other countries. Anne's hiding place was revealed by an anti-Semitic neighbor, and she was taken away to a concentration camp where she ultimately died.
But this is also what the cowardly, masked ICE thugs have been doing in our fascist-like, and un-Christian America. We have our own concentration camps, called detention centers, but a rose by any other name is still a rose.
The goal of the present Trump Administration is to let other countries follow the parable of the Good Samaritan because we need to keep our country from being replaced by people of the wrong complexion.
And Trump had a photo shoot of himself where he was disingenuously holding up a Bible, and he couldn't even recall his favorite Bible verse. He probably knows many of Hitler's pronouncements since he, at one time, had Hitler's speeches at his nightstand.
We must end the Trumpian nightmare post haste.

Extending thanks
Dear Editor,
I am writing to extend thanks to all who participated in this years’ Verna Mize Triathlon. In addition, I want to thank all those who made it happen, most importantly Colonel Dylan Carlson who was able to find us our lifeguards in the waning days; no lifeguards, no triathlon. We hope to keep him involved for years to come.
A big thanks to the Sheriff’s Department who kept watch over our swimmers and bikers, and to Ryan Avendt who helps with materials, as does Angela Luskin who lets us use their signs every year.
Our volunteers are amazing and know exactly what to do that allows things to go on relatively smoothly: Kent Klausner, Dave Bach, Betty MacInnes, Melissa Lewis, Doug Bacon, Priscilla Tapio, Jan Cole, Eric Waara, Craig Waddell, Pat Zubilak, Kat Burke, Ben Hernandez, Judith Harkonen, Bob Jackson, Tia Eck and Ginny Hemmer.
Lastly, we greatly appreciate all the media coverage we received before, during and after the race from KBEAR and the Daily Mining Gazette as well as the very nice news clip from TV6.
As always, a debt of gratitude to Verna Mize. Try to imagine what the lake would be like if she had not taken action to preserve it. We are very fortunate to have it here and still beautiful.
