Republican Failure

Republicans on our local midterm ballot have ALL failed to represent our best interests as constituents. Most of the people in the Copper County want excellent affordable healthcare, a robust sustainable economy, high quality education for our children, a strong elite military for defense of our country, the freedom of speech and practice of religion, and an effective government that represents the will of the people. Republicans have delivered on NONE of these pertinent issues. Instead, they have chosen to blindly give allegiance to a convicted felon (president) who violates the Constitution and only cares about generously benefiting the very wealthy.
Thus, we are engaged in a senseless war that is rapidly degrading our military, alienating our longtime allies, coddling authoritarian regimes, super-inflating our national debt, and destroying the economy for working class families.
Since none of the ballot-Republicans have spoken out against these erosions, it is safe to assume that they FULLY endorse these failing detrimental policies. Because of their moral cowardice and silence, this super-majority of Republican "leadership" (Executive, Legislative, Judicial) "owns" this current environment. "They broke it, but WE have to buy it".
The only reasonably power that concerned citizens have is to VOTE! Seek truth, work together and elect qualified leadership to represent the PEOPLE.

Michigan kids need daylight after school
To the editor,
I’ve lived and worked in Iron Mountain for 47 years, and every winter I watch our kids lose the daylight. Here on Central time it’s dark by 4:15 in December. A child gets off the bus and there’s no light left for sledding, skating or a game in the yard. Four months indoors in front of a screen isn’t good for anybody’s health or mood.
The Sunshine Protection Act would fix that by keeping us on Daylight Saving Time all year. The U.S. House passed it 308 to 117 this summer. It’s stuck in the Senate because one senator, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, keeps blocking a vote.
The usual objection is dark winter mornings, and in Michigan that’s a fair point. But school districts can start later in the winter. No school board can give a child daylight after school.
Evening light matters for everyone else, too. Teenagers drive home from practice and after-school jobs in the dark, during the busiest traffic of the day. Working hunters lose their weekday hunts from November on. And all of us drive home at dusk, right when deer are crossing the roads, in a state with some of the most deer crashes in the country.
Nearly all of us are tired of changing the clocks twice a year, too.
I’d urge readers to call Senators Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin and ask them to push for a vote. Let’s lock the clock.

The Good Citizen

“All that’s necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” One of the worst ways of doing nothing is to not cast an informed vote.
Eternal vigilance backed by the knowledge of our form of government and components of freedom (Life, liberty, and property) are necessary for informed consent and moral voting.
All components are under attack by the Democrat party, and the choice has never been more clear. The Dems once the party supporting slavery is back at it -- this time to enslave all people. The make up of the party is radical Islamists and socialists/communists among other radicals. They do not accept that your labor and fruits there-of are your property. Not just the tangible. The goal is total control and submission, and therefore always work toward a disarmed populace.
Most Islamists are not here to assimilate, but to subjugate. Muslims Zohran Mamdani, Rashida Tlaib, Keith Ellison, Huma Abedin, Cheryl Mills, and Ilhan Omar are all Democrats proven to hate America.
Recently only 8 Dems in Congress supported a resolution to condemn socialism. In hearings, they ran interference to protect Louis Learner and Dr. Anthony Fauci. In MI, El-Sayed’s backer and father-in-law was involved with the “Muslim Brotherhood,” “Council on American Islamic Relations,” and the “Islamic Society of North America.”
The apparent presidential bench for the Democrats in 2028 says it all; Kamala Harris -- proved she can’t handle any task except creating word salads. Gov. Gavin Newsom -- USA’s worst governor and disaster for California. Congresswoman O.A.C. -- below average intelligence, but above average looks, lost 25,000 jobs for New York. Gretchen Whitmer -- A poor Gov who mismanaged Covid costing lives, businesses, health and jobs. Education levels lowered. Pete Buttigieg -- he has a husband, and at the beginning of his Biden appointment, went on a long paternity leave.
