Heartfelt additions

New cardiologist, educational programs at Baraga County Memorial Hospital

Courtesy of BCMH Cardiovascular and geriatric specialist Dr. Peter Vaitkevicius conducts a Lunch and Learn session recently at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

As Heart Month wraps up, Baraga County Memorial Hospital is delighted to welcome a distinguished cardiologist to its team. Dr. Peter Vaitkevicius, a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in cardiovascular medicine as well as geriatric medicine, is set to make a significant impact on patient care and community well-being. This timely addition aligns seamlessly with the hospital’s commitment to heart health and raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases.

Vaitkevicius comes to BCMH with an impressive background in cardiology, having received his medical education from Wayne State University (Medical School and Resident of Internal Medicine), Johns Hopkins (Geriatric Fellowship), NIH Research Fellowship and University of Maryland (Cardiovascular Fellowship).

BCMH celebrated February’s Heart Month by revitalizing its monthly lunchtime educational seminars, titled Lunch and Learns. Upwards of 25 community members from Baraga County and beyond attended the free lunch to listen to the cardiologist speak – and tell jokes about heart health! Stay tuned to our social media and local newspapers as we announce future lunch-and-learn topics and dates.

If you missed his Lunch and Learn and are seeking cardiac information, Dr. V is currently taking new patients and scheduling consultations. Please call 906-524-6118 to make an appointment.

BCMH looks ahead to March, which is National Nutrition Month. Recognizing the profound link between nutrition and general health and wellness, the hospital will be sharing information on social media regarding nutrition and healthy eating.

BCMH has expanded its services offered to ensure that the community receives comprehensive support and guidance on their journey to a healthier, happier life. Some services include, a behavioral health crisis response program, ketamine infusions for people suffering from severe depression, Senior Life Solutions – a group therapy program for seniors and Lunch and Learns to provide a supplementary education to the community.
